Job Overview

The Program Assistant ("PA") supports the work of the Collaborative on Global Children's Issues (the "Collaborative"), which launched in 2021 to foster cross-disciplinary research and dialogue on critical and emerging challenges affecting children around the world, with a particular focus on children in adversity and pathways to resilience. The PA reports to the Executive Director of the Collaborative on Global Children's Issues and the VP for Global Engagement and works closely with staff in the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement. The PA also interacts with faculty and staff in departments across the university, vendors, project partners, and the wider public. The PA supports two ongoing research projects:
  • The "Faith and the Family: Propagating and Preventing Child-Family Separation across Time and Context" project, a partnership with Catholic Relief Services, aims to deepen scholarship and public understanding of the role of Christian faith communications in both the propagation and prevention of child-family separation across time and context; to facilitate communication between, and build a community of, stakeholders concerned about preventing and responding to child-family separation; and to gain a better understanding of the related knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the Georgetown community.
  • "The Culture of Encounter and the Global Agenda Project," a collaboration with the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, is a multi-year exploration of the importance of dialogue and collaboration around pressing global challenges.

The Program Assistant ("PA") is essential to the successful conduct and execution of these projects, providing important administrative, program, and communications support to each project. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • Research, writing, and editing;
  • Managing content on the project websites;
  • Performing outreach via email, social media, and other communications platforms;
  • Planning and executing webinars, workshops and other Collaborative programs;
  • Supporting finance, travel, and events logistics, as needed;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A familiarity with global child rights and protection
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Proven skills in time management, organization, and communications and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a complex, multi-faceted environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Collaborative work style and ability to respond positively to constructive feedback.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One to two years of professional experience
  • Foreign language proficiency, preferably Spanish or French
  • Knowledge of Georgetown's mission and its global activities
